Overview for Udayana: New Horizons in History, Classics and Inter-Cultural Studies
Udayana the present festschrift, is a gift to an esteemed scholar of ancient Greek and Indian history. It has been prepared in the honour by a host of renowned historian and budding scholars who immensely appreciate the contribution of professor Udal Prakash Arora, his vast scholarship and his graceful personality. Professor U.P. Arora is a pioneer scholar of the Graeco-Indian studies, and hence, the felicitation volume maintains an inclination towards the Greek interlude in Indian history, the Graeco-Indian interaction, and India in the world context. The classics-epic poetry and drama-and the classical trend have been the salient features in ancient Indian and Greek world. The aspect Indian and Greek world. The volume comprises of six parts. The First Part is the 'Felicitation' with biographical material, reminiscences, compliments and blessings. The Second Part concerns the 'Classical and Graeco-Indian Studies' with 18 scholarly papers. The Third Part focuses upon 'Indian Classics and Wisdom' and highly merited articles are included in it. Fourth Part places 'India and the world Context' presents select valuable contributions, some of which relate to the medieval and modern history. The Fifth Part of the volume, 'Religion, Society, Art and Archaeology' have excellent articles on the specialized themes like archaeology, art, architecture, numismatics etc. The Sixth Part comprises of learned papers written in Hindi language, which not only possess merit in historical content but also in literary merit. The volume shall prove useful and valuable to all lovers of knowledge because of its rare collection.
Atul Kumar Sinha (Editor)
A.K. Sinha, M.A., D.Phil. (University of Allahabad, Allahabad) teaches in the Department of Ancient History and Culture, MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly since 1985. Dr. Sinha specializes in the History of Ideas, Philosophy of History and Historiography. He has to his credit five research books and more than fifty research papers published in prestigious journals. He has presented papers in the World Philosophical Congress, International Colloquium on Thucydides at Athens, Greece; International Seminar on â€˜Relevance of Classics in the New Millenniumâ€™ and two international conferences of Indian Society for Greek and Roman Studies besides a number of national level seminars and conferences. He is closely associated with several academic organizations like Indian History Congress, UP History congress, Indian History and Culture Society, Indian Society for Greek and Roman Studies and Heritage Trust to name a few. He is Assistant Editor of research journal Yavanika: Indo-Hellenic Studies and Associate Editor of various other publications. A prolific writer, Dr. Sinha has contributed a good number of creative articles in magazines and papers and given talks on All-India Radio and Doordarshan.
