About the author

Rekha Ghosh

Dr. (Mrs.) Rekha Ghosh an environmental geologist, born in 1941, did her Ph.D in Geology in 1968 from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. One of the first lady geologists in India, she worked in various coal fields including those in North-eastern India and Bihar. With 34 years of teaching and research experience in the field of Geology specially Environmental Geology, she has guided many research students and prepared hydrogeological and land-use management plans for mining projects. She has conducted several training programmes for Public Sector Mining Environmentalists. She has more than 90 scientific publications in journals and has contributed chapters in books including one published by Balkema, The Netherlands. Dr. Ghosh retired as a faculty member in the Centre of Mining Environment, Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. She has been honoured with the Bharat Jyoti Award.
