The book is supplemented with an uptodate bibliography on the topics covered alongwith an extended glossary of technical terms of Ayurveda with descriptive definitions. All topics have been written with emphasis on the uniqueness and distinction of Ayurveda from conventional orthodox western modern medicine with an attempt to evaluate the relevance and validity of the same in modern times.The author of this book being teacher, physician and researcher in this field has had the advantage of utilising his professional experience with clinical medicine of Ayurveda in compiling the present work. It is hoped and believed that this small effort will prove to be of some benefit to the prospective readers to prepare them to enter into the vast ocean of the unique knowledge of the ancient science of life and medicine as propounded in Ayurveda.

Prof. Ram Harsh Singh born on Jan, 10th 1942 graduated in Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery from prestigious Banaras Hindu University in (1961), did Ph. D (1969) and D.Litt. (1982) under coveted supervision of Padamshri Prof. K N Udupa. He is Fellow of National Academy of Indian Medicine and was conferred the degree of Doctor of Medicine Honoris causa by Medicina Alternativa Alma Ata. Prof. Singh has produced 100 MDs and 35 Ph. Ds under is guidance. He has published 12 important books, 200 research papers in national journals. He is on editorial board of several National journals, is the Member of the National Commission of history of science and is the ‘Ratna Sadasya’ of National Academy of Ayurveda. Prof. Singh is the recipient of Hari Om Ashram, Jiwaka Award of Asian medicine and Pt. ram narain sharma best teachers Awards. He has widely traveled all over the world to promote Ayurveda globally. Prof. Singh joined the faculty of Ayurveda at BanarasHindu University in 1964 and servedb this prestigious institution for nearly four decades in the capacity of Lecturer, Reader, Professor, Head of the Deptt. andDean of the Faculty till 2003 after which he joined the newly launched Rajasthana Ayurveda University of Jodhpur as its first Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Singh although his career has been seriously engaged in revival and development of Ayurveda on scientific lines as an Evidence based system of Medicine.
