Robert Leopold Simon

Professor (Dr.) Robert Leopold Simon in one of those few scholars who have been working persistently and consistently on the spiritual aspects of Indian music especially to study the bhakti religous music and ritual called bhajana as a key component of South Indian society. trained by his mentor Prof. Peter Crossley-Holland Prof. Sinon was awarded Ph.D degree by the University of California, Los Angeles. His passion for Indian music was so intense that he made two trips to India in 1971-72 and 1978 to work with Indian scholars, like Dr. V. Raghavan, Vidwan B. Krishnamurthy and Manohar Narayan Sobnis to study karnatak vocal music. This resulted in the publication of two of his articles on Indian music in the reputed Journals like Grove's Dictionary of Musicians and selected Reports. At present, Dr. Simon is a Professor of ethnomusicology, Department of Music, California State Polytechnic University, Pomana, California.
