Synopsis The Iksvakus succeeded the Satavahanas as rulers in Andhra Desh. I had an opportunity to visit Nagarjunakonds and study the inscriptions. I was also fascinated to study the Iksvakus, perhaps by my repeated visits to Nagarjunakonda. Theirs was a short period of rule lastly no more than 100 years, and the rulers were only four in number, but the contribution of the period to the religious and cultural history of Andhra was enormous. The city of Vijayapuri to bost of scores of Buddhist and Brahmanical monuments. The city must have crowded with people from far off lands fascinating to contemplate the Buddhist makes moving about the streets of Vijayapuri is spreading the message of the Buddha. Vijayapuri is rather a dream city, a city of my dreams and few other cities of the time could excel it in flowing the grandeur. It is but natural that I should make an effort to study the Iksvakus through the writings of the time.

Shri Kotra Raghunath was born to (Late) Sri Surendranath Benarjee and Laxmi Saraswati in the year, 1949 September 7th had B.Sc. Degree in 1971 and M.A. in Ancient History and Archaeology in 1975 from Andhra University and had his M. Phil Degree from Nagarjuna University in 1985 and joined to Government Service in Srisailam Hydro Electric Project Scheme, Archaeology and Museums Department in 1978 under the supervision of (late) Dr. R. Subrahmanyam garu and attended to number of archaeological excavations explorations. After demise of Dr. R. Subrahmanyam garu transferred to Archaeology and Museums Department, Hyderabad during 1983 as a Technical Assistant and promoted to Assistant Director (Projects) in Polavaram Project in 1998 and transferred to Rajahmundry and after disbandment of project transferred to Kakinada as Assistant Director (Museums) and continuing in the same at Kakinada in Andhra Sahitya Parishad Government Museum and Research Institute, till date. During the research period totally 12 research articles were published in different journals also participated in number of excavations conducted by the department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad.
