George Orwell (Author)
Synopsis

“Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, and he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself.” ‘Animal Farm’ was first published in 1945. it is a satire on Stalinism and the Russian revolution. After realizing their desire for freedom, the animals of ?Manor farm’ chase Mr. Jones off his property and take control. The novel, presented as a fable, uses animals to comment on human society and events of the Russian revolution and the years following, from 1917 to 1943.

George Orwell

George Orwell (1903-1950) was the pen name of Eric Blair. He was born to Richard Walmesley Blair and Ida Mabel Limonzin as their second child in Motihari, Bengal (India) in 1903 where his father worked as a civil servant. He was taken to England at the age of one along with his mother and sister. After finishing his studies at Eton he joined The Indian Imperial Police at Burma (now Myanmer) as an assistant superintendent. Eventually his mounting dislike of imperial rule led him to resign from the post in 1928 and return to England. He was a confirmed anti-imperialist.
