Nanotechnology is often referred to as a general-purpose technology. That's because in its mature form it will have significant impact on almost all industries and all areas of society. It offers better built, longer lasting, cleaner, safer, and smarter products for the home, for communications, for medicine, for transportation, for agriculture, and for industry in general. It is sometimes seen as the next industrial revolution. It is a revolutionary, transformative and powerful technology. Nanorobotics is the technology of creating machines or robotsat or close to the scale of a millionth of a millimeter. More specifically, nanorobotics refers to the still largely theoretical nanotechnology engineering discipline of designing and building nanorobots. Nanorobots are typically devices ranging in size from 0.1-10 micrometers and constructed of nanoscale or molecular components. As no nanorobots have so far been created, they remain a hypothetical concept at this time. It can also be defined as a robot which allows precision interactions with nanoscale objects, or can manipulate with nanoscale resolution. This Book focuses on the state of the art in the field of nanorobotics by describing various molecular level systems and associated design and control issues. Following that some of the man-made and naturally occurring molecular machines are discussed. This volume also describes SPM principles, surveys SPM uses in Nanomanipulation and looks at the SPM as a robot.
