The Beautiful in Indian Arts
Synopsis
This book presents a new and more comprehensive definition of the term 'beauty' in the light of philosophical theory of individuation. According to this theory, beauty is a mark of success of an individuation of the feeling of affinity between the Sublime and the Particular. This affinity is realised in the practical activity of making something-i.e., in the artistic activity. An attempt has been made by the authoress to interpret the major Indian Arts, viz., architecture and sculpture, painting, music and dance and literature on the basis of the concept of beauty developed by her. The approach is philosophical and not technical or historical.
