A Critical Jubilee: Selected Essays
Synopsis
This anthology of fifteen papers is brought out on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the author as teacher, researcher, critic and reviewer in India and abroad. These essays are selected from over sixty papers the author has published in well-known journals and important anthologies in the last five decades. They cover a wide range of topics: British, American, Italian, Indo-English, and Anglo-Indian literatures. There are articles on the American language, English language teaching in the twenty-first century , and literary criticism in Canada. Among the British writers, Wordsworth, Keats, Mrs. Shelley, Shaw, and Forster, and among the American authors, Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway and Robin White are represented here. Kamala Markandaya, Dario Fo and Margaret Atwood are also discussed in this jubilee miscellany. Although the selection is rather arbitrary and limited to fifteen, these papers indicate the range of the author's research interests in the last half a century.
