The Drukpa Mystique: Bhutan in 21st Century

Jaiwanti Dimri (Author)
Synopsis This book presents a collage of Druk Yuel-The Land of the Peaceful Dragon in the contemporary times. Nestled in the southern foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, this small, last surviving Himalayan Buddhist kingdom has remained an enigma to the outside world owing to the kingdom’s centuries of isolation. Despite opening its window to the outside world in the last three or four decades, Bhutan stands apart for strictly adhering to indigenous paradigms and policies an age of globalization. No wonder this small kingdom has retained its distinct identity and culture in an age when identities are in a state of flux. The Drukpa Mystique encapsulates the mood and the spirit, the air and the atmospheres of Bhutan in general and the Drukpas in Bhutanese experience centres around the motif of mystique manifested in the multifaceted dimensions of personal, social, religious and cultural life. This book mixes empirical reality with documented knowledge.
