Synopsis In the recent past, librarianship has undergone development enormously not only in its traditional areas but also into new areas involving completely new information techniques. The present book entitled Encyclopaedia of Library and Information Science has been a selfless attempt to include the selected terms from all these fields. Generally it covers the library terms but also includes such subjects as printing, paper making, publishing, binding, illustration and applications of information science to library systems with which a librarian must be familiar for the satisfactory performance of his professional duties. It also includes technical terms from data processing, computer, Micro computer and desk publishing etc. The terms are confined to those which are in current use and outdated terms have been omitted, especially those relating to obsolete methods of librarianship. Some terms have been only briefly defined while others of more direct and everyday significance are dealt within sufficient detail. This work has been carefully compiled and edited for the use of students of librarianship who have always required such a book at hand during their studies. It is expected that the book will prove to be useful to university, college, public and school librarians but that it will also get a place on the open shelves in reference libraries.
