This book entitled Population and Development in Uttar Prdesh is an outcome of the National Seminar on the above theme organized jointly b y the International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Lucknow and the Population Council, India in Lucknow during 4-6 December 1994 to discuss the problems in the state in the context of development. The present volume is an excellent collection of 36selected papers by eminent scholars and researchers organized in six sections viz., Population and Development-I, Population and Development-II, Nuptiality and Fertility Dynamics, PopulationPolicies and Programmes, Mortality and Health Situation and Population Growth-Enviornment and Migration. Arvind Pandey (Editor)
Dr. Arvind pandey is Reader, Department of Mathematical Demography and Statistics, International Institute for Population Sciences, Bombay. He has been teaching Mathematical Demography, Techniques of Fertility Analysis, Population Projection, Evaluation of Family Planning Programmes and Biostatistics over a decade. His area of interest covers modelling biosocial processes in general and human reproduction process in particular. He has written more than 50 papers which are published innational and International journals. Dr. Pandey is recipient of several awards, e.g., Young Scientist Award of the Indian Science Congress Association, Malaviya Memorial Foundation Award of Banaras Hindu University for his outstanding research in the area of Birth Interval Analysis.
Kamla Gupta (Editor)
Dr. Kamla Gupta is Reader at the International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai. She is engaged in teaching and research in the field of population for the past two decades. Dr. Gupta obtained her Master's degree in 1968 and Doctorate degree in 1975 in Geography from the Agra University, Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Her area of specialization is Population Geography. She has publisehd more than thirty research papers on various aspects of population in the books and journals of international and national repute. Her main areas of interest are Urbanization, Migration, Environment, Aging, Special Groups and Gender Studies.
